Letter from the Artistic Director

Dear Friends,

I am pleased to welcome you at the site of the Russian  Ballet Academy named after A.Y. Vaganova  – the  oldest  school of classical dance. Professors, coaches and  teachers’  staff  have  been working hard to provide  comprehensive ballet education for  new generations of ballet artists.  Although we regard classical dance as our main discipline,   the Academy offers  a variety of subjects  which are essential  for the formation of a dancer. There is character dance in each  classical  ballet,  and we grant  much attention  to this aspect  of ballet education.  From the very first year of tuition the students have classes in history dance and ‘de salon’ dance, because, historically, the School started from  teaching Minuet. Pas de deux  is another significant  discipline at the Academy  due  to its role in classical ballet. Some years ago we included modern dance in the curriculum.  This exposure  to  Modern helps our students when they encounter contemporary dance productions. Music and foreign languages hold significant position in our syllabus. And we are aware of the impact that history of ballet, theater, music and literature have in the process of ballet artist formation, because only harmoniously developed individual is able to really contribute to the art. I am happy to introduce you to the Vaganova Academy activities.
